Joint Economic Committee Members

11 of its 20 members are on the November 3, 2026 ballot — 10 House members (every House seat is up) and 1 Class II senator. Joint committees mix House members, who are all up every two years, with senators, who are only up when their class is on the ballot.

The Joint Economic Committee is a joint committee of the Congress. It is chaired by David Schweikert (R-AZ), with Margaret Hassan (D-NH) as ranking member. Like every congressional committee, it does the detailed work the full chamber cannot: holding hearings, marking up bills in its jurisdiction before they reach the floor, and overseeing the executive-branch agencies it covers. A bill that never gets a hearing here never gets a vote — which is why the chair's control of the calendar is the committee's most consequential power.

The majority party holds the chair and a majority of seats on every committee, in rough proportion to its margin in the chamber, so the 12–8 split above follows directly from the current party breakdown. Seniority within each party — the rank column — determines who moves up when a seat opens, and the most senior minority member becomes chair if control of the chamber flips.
