Senate Indian Affairs Committee Members

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs is a standing committee of the Senate. It is chaired by Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), with Brian Schatz (D-HI) as vice chairman. Like every congressional committee, it does the detailed work the full chamber cannot: holding hearings, marking up bills in its jurisdiction before they reach the floor, and overseeing the executive-branch agencies it covers. A bill that never gets a hearing here never gets a vote — which is why the chair's control of the calendar is the committee's most consequential power.
