The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works is a standing committee of the Senate. It is chaired by Shelley Capito (R-WV), with Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) as ranking member. Like every congressional committee, it does the detailed work the full chamber cannot: holding hearings, marking up bills in its jurisdiction before they reach the floor, and overseeing the executive-branch agencies it covers.
